A few hours ago, I found out that I completed my certification in Digital Marketing Management from the University of Toronto. It is a major accomplishment and one of my proudest moments of 2014.
I remember the fears and doubts I had when I was recommended to do the program by my best friend. I hadn’t been in school since 2001, and to balance school while working full time and balancing my personal life seemed overwhelming. After taking some time to think about it more, I went for it and over a year later I accomplished my goal.
Besides accomplishing this certification, I also learned a bigger lesson: The importance of always learning something new. Let’s keep it real here. Not everyone will take the time to go to school and get a certificate. There are various reasons for that such as finances, lack of interest, or just dealing with life challenges. Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to get a degree or some sort of school certification. That doesn’t mean that you can’t learn and acquire new skills.
There are various ways to acquire new skills. From going to the worldwide wide and searching on how to cook, or going to a local barbershop to learn how to cut hair, learning something new has never been easier to accomplish. For example, when I decided to start blogging I went online and searched on how to start a blog. After a weekend of reading and watching online videos, I then begun to start my venture into blogging. There are so many other things I want to learn: 1. Speaking a 2nd language 2. Trading on the stock market 3. How to become a motivational speaker/coach. My point is that if you really want to learn something new, there is nothing holding you back to do so.
If I didn’t go back to school in 2012, I know my life would be different. Since going back to school and continuing to learn things, my life has never been the same. I have more education behind him. I have made significant career changes. I have learned to lead and motivate better. I have become a better person. I have realized that life is short, and learning something new always helps us become better. Take a moment to think about something you want to learn and do. Once you decide, go for it. I promise you that learning that new skill/knowledge your life will change for the better.
