Surround Yourself With The Right People

One of the most important decisions we make in life is who we choose to be around. In fact, there is an old proverb that reads, “Show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are.” Quite often we become like the people we’re around.  Based on that, we must be cautious about whom we surround ourselves with because of the short and long-term implications.

To get you started, here are some recommended action items to help you surround yourself with the right people:

1.  Analyse your crew

We lean on our friends a lot. We share our successes and challenges with them. It’s important these people be the ones who support and encourage us. We must find a support system of friends who will support and challenge us.

Do an analysis of your circle of friends and see whether they add to your life or take away from it. Surround yourself with people who will help you reach your goals.

If you want to make a career change, surround yourself with those who will be supportive of your decision.  If you want to live a healthier lifestyle, be around those who live that lifestyle.

2.  Filter out the negativity

The old expression goes “Misery loves company.”   We live in a world that surrounds us with negativity.  There is no shortage of it from the people around you every day.  Family, friends, coworkers, and strangers will seek you out to share the negativity in their lives.

Let life weed out people in your life who you don’t want around. Don’t surround yourself with the toxicity and negativity of the individuals who don’t add value to your life; the individuals who have no prosperous impact on you and only want you to stay around to fulfill their needs.

As the formula goes:  Positive people= positive results.  Negative people= negative results.  Follow and use this formula correctly.

3.  Make and dedicate time to your relationships

In order to get the most out of life, we must make and spend time with the people who matter.  Our lives are so busy that sometimes we have to dedicate the time to interact with the people who matter the most to us.  If you need to schedule time to keep in touch with friends and family, put it on a calendar.

Many will say that they are always too busy, and can’t make the time.  If your relationships do matter, you will find a way to make the time.

Making and investing the time in the people who care about you pays off.  It shows love and support, and it uplifts your spirits as well as those surrounded by you.

To Conclude

Choose your friends with care – they create the environment in which you will either thrive or wilt.  Give everyone the opportunity to be a friend, but share your dreams and goals only with those who value them as much as you do.
